Vintage English Bicycles
Ranger Bicycle
Made by the English Bicycle company Phillips for Chicago Department store Marshall Fields
Phillips Cycles Ltd. was a British bicycle manufacturer based in Smethwick near Birmingham, England. Its history began early in the 20th century and ended in the 1980s by which time it had become part of Raleigh Industries, itself a part of the Tube Investments group. For a number of years, the company was the second-largest bicycle producer in Britain, after Raleigh. The company motto, which was carried on all its badges, was "Renowned the World Over". The "Phillips" brand is still used around the world, especially in China and the Far East, having been licensed by Raleigh.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bicycles were introduced in the 19th century and now number about one billion worldwide, twice as many as automobiles.[1] They are the principal means of transportation in many regions.[where?] They also provide a popular form of recreation, and have been adapted for such uses as children's toys, adult fitness, military and police applications, courier services and bicycle racing.
The basic shape and configuration of a typical upright bicycle has changed little since the first chain-driven model was developed around 1885.[2] However, many details have been improved, especially since the advent of modern materials and computer-aided design. These have allowed for a proliferation of specialized designs for particular types of cycling.
The invention of the bicycle has had an enormous impact on society, both in terms of culture and of advancing modern industrial methods. Several components that eventually played a key role in the development of the automobile were originally invented for the bicycle, including ball bearings, pneumatic tires, chain-driven sprockets, and spoke-tensioned wheels.[

Chicago Lower Wacker Tour
My friend Bernie flew into town and asked me for a tour.
| Wacker Drive | |
|---|---|
| Length: | 2.2 mi[1] (3.5 km) |
| South end: | Upper Wacker: Franklin Street / Harrison Street intersection (360 west at 424 south) Lower Wacker: Congress Parkway near Wells Street (220 west at 400 south) |
| East end: | |
Wacker Drive is a major street in Chicago, Illinois, United States, running along the south side of the main branch and the east side of the south branch of the Chicago River. The street is a multilevel street that runs from 340 north at 400 east to 200 north at 340 west and along 360 west from 188 north to 424 south in the Chicago street address system in the Loop community area of Chicago in Cook County, Illinois, United States.[2] The vast majority of it is double-decked; the upper level intended for local traffic, and the lower level for through-traffic and trucks servicing buildings on the road (and originally a dock). It is sometimes cited as a precursor to the modern freeway, though when built the idea was that pleasure vehicles would use the upper level. It is one of a few streets in the city that has addresses on all four cardinal directions.
The upper level is normally known as Upper Wacker Drive and the lower level is Lower Wacker Drive. A short part has a third level, sometimes called Lower Lower Wacker Drive or Lowest Wacker Drive.[citation needed] Near the eastern end of the road, other two and three level streets connect to Wacker Drive.
